New York's Court of Appeals will tackle the tale (or
should we say the tail?) of a purebred dog and whether the pooch is being
discriminated against by current dog show standards. So what exactly is Mr. Hammer's beef with these dog
shows? It seems that Ms. Dale's Spooner doesn't have a docked, or clipped,
tail. The American Kennel Club counters that Brittanies were bred to hunt and that docking the tails prevents injury while the dogs are in the field. So who's right and who's wrong? It looks like the state's highest court will decide this tail of the tape. Source: FindLaw.com, AP, "Court to Hear Case of Dogs' Tails," Nov. 18, 2003.
