Way Too Hot To Handle.
An Illinois couple has filed a lawsuit against a
maker of a heating pad - to the tune of $450,000 in damages - blaming the
product for their marital strife.
After the heating pad allegedly put a damper on the hot to trot couple,
they decided to file suit in Madison County Circuit Court against
Sunbeam Products, makers of the heating pad, its parent company American
Household and the Walgreen store in Collinsville, Ill. where the product
was bought.
The out of commission husband said he sustained severe burns after using
the pad, citing that it wasn't equipped with an automatic shut-off
feature.
Because of the injuries the husband sustained, the complaint alleges his
wife "has been permanently deprived of love, companionship, support
and consortium to which she was entitled."
The lawsuit claims the cooled off Casanova suffered "permanent pain,
mental anguish, disability, disfigurement ... and has been permanently
prevented from attending to his usual affairs and duties and has lost
wages and income."
What were these usual affairs and duties?
The suit also accuses Walgreen of negligently selling the heating pad
without an automatic shut-off device, even though it "should have known
that such sale posed a risk of injury to users."
OK, I give; where exactly was this heating pad
placed and for how long? I would imagine anyone could burn their hands,
elbows, butt cheeks and just about anything else if they placed it on a
pad and left it there until it was well done.
For what it's worth, the description for the same heating pad on the
Sunbeam product Web site now contains an automatic shut-off switch.
